Creme Caramel Recipe

creme-caramel-flan-recipe-homemade-french

Creme Caramel is basically custard dessert with caramelized sugar on top. Also known as flan, it is similar to creme brûlée, which is custard with a hard caramel on top. Ingredients are easy to find and it takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes to make.

Here is my recipe for Creme Caramel:

Serves 6-8 people

Ingredients:

For the custard:

6 eggs
1/2 cup sudar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups (1 liter) milk

For the caramel:

2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup water

Directions:

  1. Bring milk to just below a simmer in a sauce pan.
  2. Beat eggs and sugar until well mixed. Continue beating and gradually add the warm milk to the egg and sugar mixture and then add vanilla extract.
  3. Make the caramel by adding sugar and water to a sauce pan cooking on medium heat until sugar dissolved. It takes a few minuted for the sugar and water mixture to start getting brown. When the sugar has turned color evenly and it is light brown remove from heat.
  4. Pour caramel into your molds. Make sure they are safe to use in the oven.
  5. Pour milk, sugar and vanilla mixture on top of caramel.
  6. Place molds in a baking pan and pour warm water around them halfway up the sides. Bake them on 325-350 F (160-175 C) for 1 hour.
  7. You can serve the creme warm or chilled. To unmold easily run a knife between the custard and the walls of the mold. Invert the creme onto dessert plates.

Enjoy !
